Wintec to host Annual Contemporary
Pacific Arts workshops which are a first for
Hamilton
Hamilton Secondary School students are to be
treated to the skills, expertise and energy of some of the
Pasifika’s most highly regarded contemporary artists on
Friday and Saturday this week.
The annual Fresh Horizons workshop for secondary school students by Tautai ( the Pacific Island Contemporary Arts Trust ) will be hosted in Hamilton for the first time and will be held at Wintec’s School of Media Arts in Collingwood Street from 9 – 5 on Friday and Saturday, with an exhibition opening at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Previously the event has been held in Auckland or Wellington.
Well known Pacific artists John Ioane ,Leafa Wilson, and Itiri Tony Ngaro will tutor the workshops,
The Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust was begun in the 1980s by Samoan artist Fatu Feu’u to support the development of contemporary pacific art, and to mentor and educate emerging and established pacific artists. As part of that mentoring, the Trust have for some years now run very successful 'Fresh Horizon' workshops for secondary school students.
