Modern Apprenticeships continued success
10 October 2006
The Minister for Tertiary Education has today announced that Modern Apprenticeship numbers reached 9,171 by the end of June 2006
"The continued expansion of the Modern Apprenticeship programme is important as it highlights the opportunities for young people in industry", said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.
"Young people earn while they learn, and there is no student loan - it's a compelling package.
"More industries are describing the career pathways to management and business ownership when they talk to young people about Modern Apprenticeships. Many apprentices are already thinking about their long term futures as they begin their trade.
Employer and employee support for the Modern Apprenticeship Programme was highlighted in a Tertiary Education Commission funded evaluation released in July[1].
95% of employers and employees would definitely or probably recommend the Modern Apprenticeship Programme to others.
"The willingness to recommend to family, friends and colleagues is an important measure of success for any programme," said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.
Modern Apprentices comprise 7.5% of Industry Training Learners.
