Media asked not to film at Strathmore School

The New Zealand Principals’ Federation is asking the media to refrain from filming Strathmore School students, when they return to school on Wednesday after the death of teacher Lois Dear.

NZPF President Pat Newman has today spoken with Murray Kendrick, principal of Strathmore School. “The NZPF is reiterating the schools’ request for assistance from the media. While we realise this is a story of high interest, we ask the media not to film students when they return to school. We are also asking the media to avoid attempts to interview students, parents and teachers on Wednesday morning.”

“This is a hugely difficult time for everyone involved with Strathmore School. There are 200-plus students who need to feel some degree of normality when they come back to school on Wednesday. It is a shared duty and the media have a large part to play to ensure this happens.”

Mr Newman feels Strathmore School should not be expected to make any public statements on Wednesday July 19th, and asks the media to respect them as they try to go about their daily routine. “Tomorrow will be difficult enough for the school, without the massive pressures of dealing with the media as well.”
