A New Year, A New Milestone Reached

Canterbury kick off the new year by reaching yet another milestone. Total earnings from Canterbury students gaining employment through the Student Job Search (SJS) service has now exceeded $9.7 million. Nationwide SJS students have reached earnings off $38.6 million.

Canterbury is strategically right on target gaining more skilled and longer duration positions. This season (beginning 1 October 2005) has seen SJS Canterbury exceed targets, already reaching last years total seasons duration worker weeks and skilled duration worker weeks. Duration worker weeks represent the cumulative number of weeks that student are working that are fulltime, for a minimum of a month. With another 7 weeks until the end of this season SJS Canterbury has gained 20,000 worker weeks compared to the season total of 17,957 in 2004/2005.

The most encouraging figure is that 11,275 of these worker weeks are skilled duration placements, meaning students are being placed into positions, in skilled positions. At the completion of the 2004/2005 season (28 February 2005) SJS had reached 8272 skilled duration worker weeks.

“While most of our employer’s will have taken on their staff before Christmas, we are preparing for yet another influx of jobs and students as the new year ticks off. Students still have January and February free and many employers take advantage of this to get the special projects completed” Regional Manager Lupe Leota comments.

Canterbury Employers are amongst the most competitive nationally as they offer higher wages rates, longer duration and more skilled positions then any other region. “Canterbury has always been a leading region and that is due to the quality of positions Canterbury Employers offer” says Leota.
