Monitoring and Marking Update

The Qualifications Authority has issued an update on monitoring and marking of this year's NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 exams.

Marking has been suspended (and resumed), for another two standards, taking the total to date to nine out of 335 standards.

The Qualifications Authority's Acting Chief Executive Karen Sewell says the enhanced monitoring will ensure that results will be fair and consistent this year.

"We are monitoring results daily against how we expect the students to perform. Where the early marking shows a difference marking is suspended and further investigation carried out."

In each case, the investigation has resulted in either the assessment schedule being changed or clarification given to markers on how to interpret the assessment schedule.

"The processes we put in place this year are working as expected. Results will still be delivered between 26 and 28 January as planned.

The standards remarked so far are:

English level 2 - 90380 - 3 credits
Economics level 1 - 90198 - 5 credits
Maths level 1 - 90152 - 2 credits
Maths level 3 - 90636 - 6 credits
Maths level 3 - 90635 - 6 credits
Japanese level 1 - 90102 - 6 credits
Drama level 3 - 90612 - 4 credits
