Volunteers Create Good Citizens!

Volunteers Create Good Citizens!

Scouting NZ provides unique self-development experiences for young people throughout the country and this is only possible through the volunteer services of over 6000 adult volunteers. Scouting wishes to publicly acknowledge the service provided by all its volunteers on International Volunteer Day 5 December 2005.

There are great satisfaction and rewards to be gained from volunteering and although many parents now have reduced free time available to them there is no better way to achieve quality recreational time with their children than through an involvement with Scouting. Broad based activity programmes allow first time experiences of many outdoor pursuits, practical skills and teamwork.

Our youth are our future. Through their involvement in Scouting, thousands of young people and adults in New Zealand and over 28 million worldwide have learnt important values and enhanced their personal and leadership skills. This has helped them take active and contributory roles in their families, communities and working lives.

If we are to continue to teach and reinforce the right values in our youth for them to become good citizens of the future, we must as a nation understand, support and take part in their development. Scouting is always willing to accept responsible and wholesome adult volunteers to play their part.
