Sky Television Initiates ‘Sky In Schools’ Service

SKY Television today announced the launch of its SKY In Schools package, offering New Zealand schools the opportunity to subscribe to SKY at a subsidised rate and providing access to information about selected SKY programming and classroom support material via the SKY In Schools website.

The SKY In Schools package is designed to help teachers and students keep pace with world events, history, culture and sport.

SKY Television CEO John Fellet says SKY is thrilled about giving young New Zealanders access to the huge variety of informative, educational and captivating programmes on SKY’s channels*.

“Similar programmes have proved enormously successful overseas and we are certain SKY In Schools will be a success here in New Zealand. Television lets us look at events, history, and cultures like no other medium can. It is a window to the rest of the world.”

Teachers can access information about upcoming programming that will complement lessons and find out when they are screening, using the SKY In Schools website, www.skytv.co.nz/schools , where upcoming highlights are picked out each month.

There are downloadable worksheets available for most documentaries in the Teachers’ Materials section of the website. These worksheets have questions, ideas for further research, related web links and activities.

The SKY In Schools subscription includes:
Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet, The History Channel, SKY News Australia/New Zealand, CNN, BBC World, ESPN, SKY Sport 1, The Living Channel National Radio, Concert FM, Southland TV (including S.I.T’s long-distance learning programme) Maori Television and nationwide free to air networks.
