“Between the devil and the deep blue sea: the political dilemma in the 2005 election”
In very broad terms, Labour and National can agree on the central economic, business and social challenges facing the country. But each offers its own prescription for meeting them. At first glance, the two sets of policies seem quite similar because both parties are trying to redefine the middle ground of NZ politics. But in fact the policies have significant differences, representing each party’s view of NZ’s future. Neither set is ideal so voters face a dilemma about how to play the MMP system to get the optimal outcome.
Refreshments will be served after Rod's lecture.

October: "Living with China".
Date: Thursday, 20th of October 2005.
Time: 5:30pm - 7pm
Venue: Red Lecture Theatre, Building 180, Unitec New Zealand, Mt Albert Campus
As China continues its phenomenal development at an unprecedented pace, New Zealand is trying to hammer out a free trade agreement with it. By this spring, we should have some idea of the outline of an agreement. But turning the agreement into a practical tool for expanded trade and investment with China presents us with challenges equally as great as our economic reforms of the 1980s.
Refreshments will be served after Rod's lecture.
Please RSVP to Shannon Seal at sseal@unitec.ac.nz before the 29th August if you wish to attend either of these informative and interesting lectures. A map of the campus can be emailed upon request.
