MYOB Supporting Future in Business Education

Media release: 1 July 2005

MYOB Supporting Future in Business Education

Training to run a successful business now starts in the classroom, with the support of an innovative new education package provided by the country's leading business software provider.

MYOB has recently launched a free Education Kit He Kete Matauranga o MYOB, designed to equip secondary school students with the skills to run a modern business. The Kit, which has so far been donated to 178 schools throughout the country, will be demonstrated at a special classroom presentation to Minister of Information Technology, Hon David Cunliffe at Green Bay High School, Green Bay Auckland on Monday 4 July.

MYOB New Zealand General Manager David Lowe says the MYOB Education Kit He Kete Matauranga o MYOB is an excellent example of how business can work in partnership with the education sector to give students the training and support they need to succeed in their chosen careers.

"By donating the MYOB Education Kit to all New Zealand secondary schools, we're providing students with the opportunity to gain practical experience of some of the country's most widely-used business software."

"Experience with the software will equip the students to go on to further studies, open up opportunities for them in employment and provide them with some of the tools they need to develop their own businesses," says David Lowe.

Around three-quarters of New Zealand businesses that buy accounting software choose an MYOB product to help them in the running of their business.

The MYOB Education Kit includes some of the company's most popular business software, including MYOB Premier, MYOB RetailManager, MYOB Cashbook and MYOB Payroll, as well as user guides and training materials. A special feature of the Kit is a tutorial and workbook developed by Ian McGregor, formerly of the School of Professional Development, Christchurch College of Education. The workbook provides everything needed to train students for NCEA Achievement Standard Accounting 2.7. and so links with the National Qualifications Framework.

Green Bay High School Principal Morag Hutchinson says she was delighted to see the product used by the school's Accounting Department.

"It's very important to have the senior school's curriculum connecting with the real world."

"That's the beauty of using products like MYOB in the classroom, which are commonly used in business. With the many demands on schools' resources, it is so much the better to have this Kit available free of charge," says Morag Hutchinson.

MYOB hopes to have the majority of New Zealand secondary schools take up the offer of the free Education Kit by the end of the year. Copies of the MYOB Education Kit He Kete Matauranga o MYOB can be ordered through MYOB Education and Training Manager Mary Barry, phone 09 976 9400.
