BEST OF THE BEST STUDENT ART ON TOUR
The top art produced by New Zealand's secondary students is about to take to the road for a travelling exhibition.
From Monday 20 June, a selection of the best Visual Arts folios from those who achieved excellence in last year's level 3 assessments will tour 20 centres throughout the country.
The aim of the exhibition is to show this year's secondary school students and their teachers what it takes to gain achievement with excellence in art at level 3.
The exhibition has been split into two collections, each comprising 23 practical art folios. The folios are from each practical arts subject - photography, design, printmaking, sculpture and painting. One collection will travel around the South Island and Auckland, while the other collection will travel through the rest of the North Island.
The exhibition will begin simultaneously in Queenstown and Lower Hutt. The art will be on display in public art galleries, museums and local schools.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority organises this event each year. Acting Chief Executive Karen Sewell said this year's exhibition was organised following the success of previous displays. "This exhibition both guides and inspires. Students can see what can be achieved and can infer what is being sought in assessment terms. In many other subjects exemplars can be viewed on the NZQA website, as can some of these artworks, but seeing them directly is by far the most enjoyable and instructive. The standard of these artworks is wonderfully high, and I thank the students for allowing us to use their work."
