ACE consultation attracts around 400 submissions

Work is nearly complete on collating around 400 submissions received by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) on its proposed Adult and Community Education (ACE) Funding Framework.

While the deadline was Friday, the total number of submissions will not be known for a few days, because some were sent to Members of Parliament and Ministers rather than the TEC.

Submissions received to date are from all parts of the ACE sector, including learners, tutors, school principals and coordinators, boards of trustees, small community and national providers, Tertiary Education Institutions, and peak bodies.

The Acting General Manager of the TEC, Dr Colin Webb, says analysis of the submissions has begun and the feedback will be used to refine the proposed Funding Framework over the next month. A summary of the main issues highlighted by the submissions will be made available to the public once analysis is complete.

“ACE is a very important part of the tertiary education mix and it is important that we get the new funding framework right,” Dr Webb said.

Recommendations on a final framework are due to go to Cabinet in June and decisions are expected to be announced in July.
