CEPNZ Provides Truancy Database
In relation to recent comments and press releases by Kenneth Wang of the ACT Party and those of the Truancy Services in
Bay of Plenty and surrounding districts.
The Ministry of Education and many other Government Ministers have been well aware that the privately owned CEPNZ
(Character Education Programme of New Zealand) had been developing resources to assist schools to combat truancy since
November 2003 and made the privately developed “Truancy Resource Pack” available to schools in January 2004.
By late March 2004, this Pack was enhanced with the launch of the CEPNZs secure “Online Truancy Database”, well in
advance of any Governemnt proposals, to its members. Now, over 320 schools and associated Truancy Officers throughout NZ
have access to these resources. We encourage all schools and Truancy Officers to contact the CEPNZ so that they can gain
access to our National Truancy Database and associated resources. We will do all that we can to make their job easier.
On 21st March 2005, the CEPNZ launched its newest, private initiate, “Terminate Truancy 2005”. We have found that we
cannot wait for the Government to solve all our problems, we need to take these initiatives ourselves as a society of
caring citizens and we call on the business community, local councils and all other parties to support the effort of our
schools and Attendance Officers.
Without this support, we may be waiting until well after the next election before we see any progress on resources or
extra funding from the Governement in relation to the ongoing battle against truancy.
Let us ‘make the stand’ to support those hardworking individuals involved with ensuring that our children get the
education they deserve and join with the CEPNZ to Terminate Truancy in 2005.
