NCEA – Time to move on says trustee organisation

New Zealand School Trustees Association President Chris Haines says its time to put aside the hype and rhetoric around NCEA and scholarship.

And he says the focus now needs to be on fixing the areas where reality does not match expectation.

“As I have stated earlier, with any new system, there will always be fine tuning, and particularly so in the case of something like NCEA, which is a huge change achieved within a tight timeframe.”

Chris Haines says the reality is that a change in the qualifications system has been made, and people now need to be moving beyond the “blame and shame” mentality and look to ensure the NCEA and scholarship quickly reach their full potential.

“There have been areas which will require fine tuning or change, and steps have been taken to review these aspects, and including scholarships, to ensure fairness and equity prevails”, says Chris Haines,

“So let’s put our collective efforts into getting it right as soon as possible, rather than continuing to hype up the issue, which is unlikely to produce anything useful at all.

“Our kids’ futures depend on it.” [ends]
