Student Job Search Manawatu announces that it will soon be opening an office at the Massey University campus.
Students at Massey University will have significantly improved access to much needed jobs this year when Student Job
Search opens a new office alongside the Massey University Students Association, SJS Regional Manager Barry Dowell
announced today. “It is very exciting for us to finally be on campus,” Mr Dowell said. “Every University has a Student
Job Search office on campus except Manawatu. This move can only improve our service to Massey students.”
Massey University Students’ Association President Iain Galloway agreed. “Students ask us again and again why Student Job
Search isn’t available on campus. As students become ever more reliant on part time jobs, and have less time on their
hands, the need for an accessible office has become immense. We are pleased that we can help to deliver on this need.”
Mr Galloway said that Massey struggled with the unique difficulty of being distanced from the city. “Students just don’t
have the time to cross the river in the hope of finding work.”
The new office will be housed in the Student Association building which is scheduled for refurbishment. Mr Dowell and Mr
Galloway agreed that even though this will mean some disruption at the end of 2005, the need to have Student Job Search
on campus was too great to wait until the refurbishments were complete.
Mr Dowell said he was eager to have two offices in Palmerston North. “The two-site model gives us the opportunity to
move resources to where they are most needed so that we can be responsive to students. This is the way forward.”
