Facts Are Important When Alleging Fraud

“Donna Awatere Huata has not taken money to pay private school fees according to the understanding of Independent Schools of New Zealand”, said their Executive Director, Ms. Joy Quigley, “and it is most important to ensure facts are correct when alleging fraud”.

“Whilst it is important to safeguard the privacy of innocent children, it is my understanding that some of the Wi Huata children are, or have been enrolled at state integrated schools”, said Ms. Quigley.

State integrated schools are 99% fully funded by the state and receive state funding equivalent to any state school of a similar decile ranking, but may still charge “tax rebateable donations/fees” and continue to pass themselves off as “independent” or “private” schools when it best suits them.

But they are neither “private” nor “independent”.

“It is important that the media and the prosecution ensure they get their facts straight in a trial that has such huge public interest”, said Ms. Quigley.
