International Student issues of major concern.
… Lack of cultural understanding, poor driving skills, lots of money, New Zealand is cheap for international students,
lowering overall education standards, using scarce education resources that should be available for New Zealanders,
international students are easy to exploit, they expect too much…
These and other perceptions of international tertiary students, will be debated at the Aotearoa Tertiary Students
Association (ATSA) International Student Forum (ISF2004) to be held at the Massey University Wellington campus on the
30-31 July 2004.
“Following the outstanding success of the 2003 forum at NMIT in Nelson, ATSA and the Massey Wellington Students
Association (M@WSA) are addressing international Students issues with a 2004 forum. Often these issues cannot be solved
by throwing money at consultants and agents, there needs to be a grassroots level understanding of perceptions and
issues faced by international students. We want to hear from the students themselves. ATSA believes the issue is deeper
than exorbitant institution fees,” Julie Pettett ATSA president says.
This forum will be of particular interest to people who work, study and live with international students and would like
to participate in an interactive forum of open debate. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Directed by selected workshop topics, the forum will attempt to draw out the reasons why one of New Zealand’s largest
export revenue earners is also one of the most misunderstood and volatile.
