Student debt reaches $7 Billion
Students at the University of Auckland will be “celebrating” student debt reaching $7 Billion dollars today. Auckland University Students Association President Kate Sutton said “Today we will be highlighting the importance of the Labour government fulfilling its promise to students ‘to keep tertiary education affordable” Kate went on to say “We will be having a ceremonial burning of $7 Billion dollar notes in the quad today and enjoying a birthday cake.”
Student debt is rising by as much as $1 Billion dollars a year and Students Associations across the country will be highlighting this momentous occasion.
“Students are borrowing to live” said AUSA Education Vice President Joseph Randall “The government are balancing their books on our out of control debt.” Joseph said.

Council today in the AUSA quad at 1pm will be holding a open
mike forum on the issue and AUSA will be seeking students to
sign the National Students Association lead “Borrowing to
Live means Debt for Life” petition, seeking a living
allowance for all
students.
