Private Sector Supports Minister’s Decision on Unspent Funding
“The announcement yesterday by the Associate Minister of Education (Tertiary Education) that unspent funding intended
for private training establishments will be redistributed is pleasing,” said Sandra McKersey, President of the New
Zealand Association of Private Education Providers (NZAPEP).
“The Minister is keeping to his word,” continued Mrs McKersey, “and the sector is grateful that funding which is
ringfenced for private providers, which make a valuable contribution to tertiary education in New Zealand, will remain
in the sector.”
“NZAPEP also agrees with the Minister that those providers who do not use their allocation should voluntarily return
the unused allocation which may then be reallocated to more successful PTEs.”
NZAPEP is committed to quality education and to quality management of private training establishments and believes that
every provider has an obligation to ensure that funding is used to the best advantage for the benefit of tertiary
education in New Zealand.
