12th Annual NZ International Education Conference
‘Forging the Future Top of Mind for International Education Industry’
‘Forging the Future’ is the overall theme of this years annual New Zealand International Education Conference, to be held at Te Papa, Wellington on August 12th and 13th.
Organised and run by Education New Zealand, this years Conference will feature keynote speakers from the U.K., Canada and Australia, as well as presentations from many key stakeholders in the industry. Over 300 delegates are registered, representing all sectors of the industry.
The Conference is recognised as the leading industry event of its type in New Zealand, and provides an opportunity for the industry to network, obtain information, debate the issues and contribute to the development of International Education in New Zealand.
Among the keynote speakers are:
Hon. Trevor Mallard, Minister of Education.
John Shackleton, Manager Accreditation Services at the British Council since July 2001. He is responsible for the management of the English in Britain Accreditation Scheme.
Alan Olsen, a consultant in international education, based in Hong Kong, carrying out research, strategy and policy advice for client institutions and organisations on international education, transnational education and international student programs.
Dr Jane Knight, adjunct professor at the Comparative, International, Development Education Centre, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.
Howard Fancy, Secretary of Education.
Robert Stevens, CEO of Education New Zealand
Robust debate will ensure from two Forum sessions, one featuring Dr. Bill Rosenberg (National President of the Association of University Staff) & Norman LaRoque (Policy Advisor with the New Zealand Business Roundtable) who will discuss issues around the internationalisation of education, and a Politicians Forum with Deborah Coddington (ACT), Metiria Turei (Greens), Jim Peters (NZ1st) & Hon. Dr Nick Smith (National), who will present and discuss their views on the industry.
A range of breakout sessions will allow delegates to discuss a wide range of issues in depth, and includes briefings from NZIS, NZQA, MoE and a range of other key stakeholders. The importance of networking has not been forgotten, and there will be a Conference Dinner on Tuesday night at the Duxton Hotel.
The joint Education New Zealand and New Zealand Trade & Enterprise ‘Five Steps Forward’ Marketing programme for 2004 will also be introduced at Conference.
Ten international education agents from 7 different countries will be meeting with institutions on Monday the 11th of August, and will be on hand during Conference for further meetings. After the Conference, they will be spending a few days in New Zealand, looking at institutions and checking out what New Zealand has to offer their students. SUMMARY:
