Spotless Provides Youngsters a World of Opportunities

More than 60 young Kiwis are being supported this year through Education Scholarships awarded by Spotless Services (NZ) Ltd.

The company employs over 8500 staff, many in the catering, cleaning, healthcare, building maintenance and laundry industries. Maurice Nicholson, Managing Director of Spotless, says that the scholarships are a valuable way of recognising the contribution of frontline staff to company growth.

"We award scholarships on the basis of individual merit and need, to children of employees who have been with us for more than a year. This year we are very pleased to be supporting a diverse group of young people in activities ranging from sports coaching to remedial learning," says Mr Nicholson.

"We value the efforts of our staff, and we see the scholarships as an investment in the future of their families as well as in New Zealand."

Child education and development is a major sponsorship focus for Spotless, and this is the second year that their Education Scholarships have been offered.

The scholarships aim to provide children with opportunities that they might not otherwise get.

Recipients include:

Dunedin teenager Daryl Caldwell, a promising young cricketer, who will develop his skills further this year with coaching from well-known instructor Mark Bracewell.

Victoria Prestney from Timaru who recently attended the St John's National Youth Competition & Festival in Auckland, competing in a range of first aid, communications and leadership activities.

Patricia Ross from Hamilton, who will represent New Zealand in July at the World Youth Olympics, competing in the 1500m sprints.

More than 70 nominations were received from throughout the North and South Islands representing the seven business divisions of Spotless, and 63 scholarships were awarded.
