· A Picton boy's artistic talents have won him and his immediate family a once in a lifetime trip to watch
America's Cup racing next year.

· Eleven year old Linkwater School student Joshua Edmonds entered the Air New Zealand America's Cup Art
Competition along with hundreds of other primary and intermediate school children from around the country, winning with
a 3-D piece made with paint, Fimo, card and plastic displayed on a wooden base.

· Joshua's school also benefits from his win with Air New Zealand gifting Linkwater School two return Air New
Zealand Pacific Class air fares to Australia (Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane) to do with as it wishes such as raffling to
raise funds for the school.

· Competition entrants were asked to show through any form of artistic medium why "Being At The America's Cup Is
Everything" with Joshua's entry being a clear standout says Air New Zealand sponsorship manager and judge Denise Ward.

· "We followed several criteria when judging the entries such as the child's ability to show why being at the
America's Cup is everything, their artistic flair, individuality and imagination. Joshua's art reflected all these
characteristics beautifully," she says.

· "Air New Zealand is delighted to send this budding young artist and his family to Auckland and host them for a
day on the water to watch Team New Zealand defend the cup. Joshua will be able to experience first-hand why being at the
America's Cup really is everything!"

· The entries were also judged by Tony Thomas, executive director of America's Cup 2003, who was amazed so many
children from around the country embraced the opportunity to win a trip to watch the America's Cup and show their
support for Team New Zealand.

· "We were simply blown away by the huge number of entries by children from regional New Zealand, youngsters that
would normally only experience America's Cup fever on television. The recurring theme with these entries was a real
sense of excitement for the event and strong passion and support for Team New Zealand," he says.

· Entries were received from all around the country including Taihape, Ashburton, Wellington, Tauranga, Mangonui,
Rangiora and Havelock North.

· Runner up prizes were awarded to Te Haunui Tuna (aged 11) of Waimana Primary School in Whakatane and Sarah
Davies (aged 12) of Lower Hutt's Nae Nae Intermediate.
