03 September 2002

Education Forum Co-Sponsors World Bank Global Development Forum on Private Education

The Education Forum announced today it was co-sponsoring a global online Development Forum on the role of the private sector in education. The Development Forum, entitled Towards an enhanced role for the private sector in education, is hosted by the World Bank and will take place online during the month of September 2002.

The Development Forum will examine a range of issues, including the growth of private education worldwide and the role that the private sector can play in helping countries overcome the economic, social and educational challenges they face.

In addition to the Education Forum, the Development Forum is co-sponsored by two Washington DC-based organisations – the International Finance Corporation (www.ifc.org) and EdInvest (www.ifc.org/edinvest), as well as by the UK-based CfBT Education Services (www.cfbt.com).

Moderators for the online Development Forum are Michael Latham, Director of EdInvest; Neil McIntosh, CEO of CfBT Education Services; ex-pat New Zealander Ron Perkinson from the International Finance Corporation’s Health and Education Group; and Norman LaRocque, Policy Advisor to the Education Forum.
