National Policy For Industry Training
National Policy For Industry Training Builds Upon Success
National’s industry training policy builds
upon the success of Industry Training Organisations (ITOs)
and sets a clear direction for the future, said Paul
Williams, Executive Director of the Industry Training
Federation (ITF).
“National has identified that industry control of training is the reason why the numbers of trainees and apprentices have increased hugely over the past ten years, and has committed itself to enhancing this system,” said Mr Williams.
“The numbers of people in industry training have increased by over 400% since 1992, and almost 100,000 people participated in training over 2001,” said Mr Williams. “This massive growth is due to the fact that ITOs are owned and controlled by industry, and therefore must meet industry needs.”
The ITF also welcomed National’s commitment to strengthen ITOs’ links with regional development and small business.
“Skilled people are the key to stronger regions and small businesses,” said Mr Williams.
“Supporting regions and businesses requires a flexible approach by government. National’s policies promote this flexibility by building strategic partnerships and ensuring that services to small businesses – like Biz Info – are linked to ITOs,” said Mr Williams.
