Inquiry Into Allegations Relating To Ms Kathie Irwin

The State Services Commissioner, Michael Wintringham, announced today the appointment of Hon Sir Rodney Gallen to undertake, on his behalf, the inquiry into allegations relating to the chair of the New Zealand Teachers Council, Ms Kathie Irwin.

The Minister of Education, Hon Trevor Mallard, asked the State Services Commissioner to undertake the inquiry last week following allegations relating to Ms Irwin's time at Victoria University of Wellington.

The terms of reference for the inquiry are currently being finalised. It is expected that the inquiry will be completed within three weeks.

The Commissioner will make no further comment during the course of the inquiry, and likewise he is asking all parties to refrain from making comment.
