New Editor For Otago Polytech Student Newspaper

Published: Wed 20 Feb 2002 10:00 AM
Otago Polytechnic Students' Association announces the appointment of Fiona Bowker as editor of gYRo, the monthly OPSA student magazine.
Ms Bowker comes to gYRo with three years experience of editing the University newspaper, Critic. She intends to bring her more investigative style to gYRo, and to try and involve a greater number of students in the production process.
"gYRo is a quirky and interesting magazine" said Ms Bowker, "I want to build on that, to make it a magazine people will refer to in their daily conversations as they do with Critic."
"gYRo is the only Polytechnic (and only Otago) student magazine to have a website presence, and appointing a seasoned editor is another part of OPSA's strategy to produce a more polished, student-focused product", said OPSA Vice President, Michelle Watt.
Rumours of rivalry between the two tertiary newspapers are unfounded, however. Both Ms Bowker and Patrick Crewdson, who has replaced her as Editor of Critic, enjoy an amicable information-sharing relationship. "As long as he realises gYRo is every bit the equal of Critic, we'll get along just fine" Ms Bowker joked.
