NZMSA Wants More Progress
The NZMSA is very pleased that yesterday the University of Otago joined the University of Auckland in accepting the Government’s funding offer to Freeze the Fees in 2002.
“The NZMSA is ecstatic that with both Auckland and Otago accepting the Government’s offer we are now assured that no medical student will face a fee rise next year”, said Richard Pole, President of the New Zealand Medical Students’ Association.
However, Mr Pole qualified his statement by saying that freezing fees at the extortionate level of $10,009 per medical student per year should now be followed by moves to DECREASE the cost of attending medical school.
“We would like to see progress on the move to a flat affordable tuition fee, coupled with a universal student allowance. This arrangement was alluded to by Mr Maharey when he addressed our AGM on Friday last week”, said Richard Pole.
