Varsity.co.nz Bunks Down With YHA

Published: Mon 16 Jul 2001 11:55 AM
YHA, who offer backpacker accommodation in 60 countries around the world (www.stayyha.com), and student portal Varsity.co.nz (www.varsity.co.nz) have reached agreement on a sponsorship arrangement that will see YHA promoted to students in a variety of ways.
YHA Marketing and Development Manager, Shelly Peebles, believes the relationship offers a relatively unique opportunity to promote YHA to one of the key segments of its target market. “We’re very interested in marketing channels that allow us a variety of ways to interact with potential travellers. With Varsity.co.nz, in addition to standard buttons and banners, we can provide branded content, make use of email marketing and also access a variety of offline services.”
For Varsity.co.nz CEO, Jeremy Hunt, YHA is an ideal partner. “YHA’s local and international hostel network is perfect for travelling students, and YHA membership also provides great discounts on other products and services”.
Hunt believes that the relationship with YHA represents the best type of commercial relationship. “YHA’s sponsorship brings much more than a revenue stream for us, and provides more than simple brand exposure and click-through opportunities for YHA. Furthermore, there are also direct benefits for our users as the agreement includes the provision of great travel-related content as well as weekly and monthly prizes of YHA memberships and accommodation packages.”
