"Trevor Mallard is wrong when he implies the Relationships (Sex) Game will not be used by students," said Concerned
Teachers spokesperson Peter Calvert. Mr Calvert said teachers of Physical Education and Health have been instructed by
the Minister to use the test and bring back samples of student work to the next professional development day.
"The instruction in the Ministry's material sent to all schools says:
'In school practice and trialling of adapted assessment resources.
Further practice with provided materials (the test was put on the internet on Sept 30) will be undertaken in school
classrooms. Samples of students' work will be shared between subject teachers and marked against the criteria for
credit, merit and excellence.
Adapted assessment materials will be used with samples of student work collected for sharing at the next workshop',"
said Mr Calvert
"There is no instruction to consult with parents, nor any mention in the test material of the need to consult before
using it," said Mr Calvert. "Because the trials are underway now in classrooms, many teachers will be using Year 10
students to try out the material."
Mr Calvert stated that most of Mr Mallard's response dealt with allegations about the small size of the Concerned
Teachers' Group. Mr Mallard should realise that size is not important. It is the importance of the issue that counts."
