LET’S DO IT PROPERLY
“The Government’s decision to review the operations of the Education Review Office ie welcome if it is meant as a signal that the Government intends to ensure we have a robust education system based on excellence in performance and delivery,” said Simon Carlaw, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Manufacturers Federation.
The Federation whole-heartedly supports the Review’s purpose of helping to improve education outcomes, in particular those aspects relating to external evaluations and best practice benchmarking systems for schools.
“What is required is a full, transparent and open process of review. One to which all stakeholders in the education system will have the opportunity to fully contribute, not just those from within the sector. One that is not essentially conducted by educationalists for educationalists and one which uses plain language that would enable stakeholders to follow developments.
“The Government’s announcement makes no mention of a process for consultation. Hopefully this is no more than an oversight as industry, no doubt along with other stakeholders, would anticipate having the opportunity to make its views known to the review team.
