Platonic Sex Return With Explosive ‘90s-Rock Elegy 'Impress You' & Tour Dates With Ball Park Music
Kaurna Land / Adelaide, Australia – Magandgin/Brisbane’s own Platonic Sex return with 'Impress You', a 90s rock-infused elegy that hits with the force of a hot Queensland storm. Driven by a muscular kick beat, its doubled vocal melody maps the negative space of a relationship washed away – first appearances lose their lustre, and the seams of a union don’t join right, despite best intentions.
“It's about hoping for more excitement or yearning for more in relationships,” explains singer-guitarist Bridget Brandolini. “Understanding that you want to be challenged and inspired, but being frustrated that you don't know how to get it reflected back at you.”
This yearning is mirrored in the track's soundscape, where stillness punctuates moments of turmoil, sampled drums and refracted feedback reflecting the panic and justification that comes with navigating uncertainty. True to form, the tension finally breaks: a screech of catharsis, echoing layers of guitar, crash on crash on crash.
“Sonically, ‘Impress You’ mirrors the chaos of not knowing the right way forward – panicking, justifying your actions but knowing that you want to handle things differently,” Brandolini elaborates.
Recorded with the acclaimed Antonia Gauci (GAUCI, The Buoys, Body Type, Ripple Effect Band) at Golden Retriever Studios and polished to perfection back home with Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music, Asha Jefferies, Bean Magazine) at Prawn Studios, ‘Impress You’ showcases Platonic Sex's eager progression into new territory.
Catapulting into 2025 as Best Rock Song finalists at the Queensland Music Awards, Platonic Sex embarked on an energetic all-ages weekender, playing the inaugural She Can Rage party in Gadigal Land / Sydney, and a sell-out DIY headliner in Magandgin / Brisbane, in collaboration with Anti Dismal. Adding to their growing momentum, Platonic Sex received a notable mention as a band to watch during the national TV broadcast of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.
Platonic Sex ‘Impress You’ is out now independently. Stay up to date with Platonic Sex by following them on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Tumblr and Unearthed.
