Melbourne City Claim Fourth Ninja A-League Women Premier’s Plate

Friday 18 April: Melbourne City has won the Ninja A-League Women Premier’s Plate, their fourth in their history, in the final round after an historic 2024/25 regular season.

Following an incredible run of 23 games unbeaten, City clinched the Premiership after a 5-1 away from home win over Perth Glory on Friday night.

City started the better of the two sides on the night, finding two goals in the opening six minutes thanks to Taylor Otto and Bryleeh Henry before Susan Phonsongkham drew one back for the Glory in the 12th minute from the penalty spot.

A second goal to Taylor Otto in the 26th minute extended City’s lead once more, before the away side ended up heading to the break with a three goal cushion thanks to Holly McNamara’s finish five minutes before halftime had them firmly in the driver’s seat. A 68th minute goal to Leticia McKenna ultimately sealed the dominant performance and secured the Premier’s Plate for the second consecutive year.

A-Leagues Executive Chair, Hon. Stephen Conroy said: "Congratulations to Melbourne City on a record-breaking season and their second consecutive Ninja A-League Women Premier’s Plate. They’ve had an incredible ‘invincible’ season - going 23 games undefeated - and playing some fantastic and entertaining football.

“Credit must also go to Melbourne Victory for pushing City all the way to the final round. We look forward to both sides, along with Adelaide, Western United, Central Coast and Canberra, lighting up the Ninja A-League 2025 Finals Series which kicks off next weekend.”

The Premier’s Plate is a fitting testament to Michael Matricciani’s side who are yet to taste defeat this Ninja A-League Women season with a current record of 16 wins and 7 draws, scoring an incredible 56 goals whilst only conceding 22. Melbourne City now head into the Finals Series chasing what would be a record- equalling fifth Ninja A-League Women Championship.

The Ninja A-League 2025 Finals Series kicks off next weekend, with two Elimination Finals between third and sixth, and fourth and fifth, with the two winners facing Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory in a pair of two-legged Semi Finals. The winners will then progress to the Grand Final, with the highest placed team from the regular season earning the right to host the Grand Final on 17-18 May.

During the Ninja A-League 2025 Finals Series matches will be shown live across a mix of Network 10, 10 Play and Paramount+. A complete schedule will be shared closer in the coming days.
