Ice Ferns Defeat Belgium In 3-1 Thriller
The Ice Ferns delivered a statement performance last night at the IIHF Women’s World Ice Hockey Championships Division II B in Dunedin, claiming a crucial 3-1 win over Belgium - one of the top contenders in the tournament.
With both teams entering the game undefeated, the pressure was on, and the action on the ice did not disappoint. The full audience at Dunedin Ice Stadium was treated to a high-intensity match filled with end-to-end breakaways, fierce battles on the boards, and a goaltending masterclass from New Zealand’s own Grace Harrison.

Harrison was a wall in net, turning away a barrage of Belgian shots and making several game-changing saves. Her poise and presence under pressure proved vital in keeping the Ice Ferns ahead and ultimately paved the way for their success.
New Zealand opened the scoring in the first period with an even-strength goal from #21 Hannah Shields, assisted by #2 Gabby Mills and #14 Caitlin Hollyer.
The Ferns doubled their lead in the second period, as #23 Jasmine Horner-Pascoe found the back of the net at even strength. Assists went to #22 Kellye Nelson and #24 Caitlin-Judith Heale.
Belgium responded with a goal in the third period, but New Zealand extended their lead late in the game, #19 Katya Blong scored assisted by #7 Anjali Mulari, to seal the 3–1 victory.
The Ice Ferns' blend of speed, grit, and smart team play proved too much for the Belgian side, who came into the match as one of the top seeds.
