Wild Dunedin Breaks NZ Record For Largest Yoga Gathering At NatureDome Event

New Zealand’s Festival of Nature – Wild Dunedin – has officially broken the national record for the largest yoga gathering at a single event, with an incredible turnout of 623 people participating in a one-hour session under the roof of Forsyth Barr Stadium during the festival’s NatureDome celebration.

Yoga instructors Jo Woolley, Wayne Everson, and Jenna McLaughlin opened the NatureDome experience with the record-breaking yoga session that brought together people from across the Otago region, and even as far as Christchurch – to be part of this iconic moment in Aotearoa’s nature and wellness calendar.

Thousands more turned up throughout the day to enjoy a festival brimming with creativity, music, and celebration of the wild. Highlights included joyful performances from local school groups, who sang a specially written rock anthem themed around this year’s festival – created and performed by beloved Kiwi entertainer Suzy Cato. Cato and Anika Moa also performed live on stage, families were also treated to a screening of Disney’s Moana.

Widely known as New Zealand’s Wildlife Capital, Dunedin continues to set the bar as nature advocates. Wild Dunedin’s Marketing Manager, Charlie Buchan, expressed his delight at the success of the NatureDome event:

“We are over the moon with the incredible interest we’ve had in the festival this year. With over 150 events on offer – many of which have already sold out – the success of the NatureDome and the record-breaking yoga session is something we’re immensely proud of. It’s not only a fantastic boost for the local community and wider region, but a national achievement for a festival that New Zealand can be proud of.”

The previous record for the largest yoga gathering in New Zealand stood at 300 participants, held at Auckland’s Domain – making this year’s 623-strong crowd a significant and inspiring new milestone.
