New Zealand Junior Weightlifting Champion, Kanah Andrews-Nahu beat out international competition to win the Women’s 76kg category at the Arafura Games in Darwin. Not only placing first, Andrews-Nahu also broke three New Zealand records and three Oceania records, continuing her recent record-breaking run.
A week later, Andrews-Nahu is already looking to her next competition, the North Island Weightlifting Championships held in late May, before heading to Fiji for the IWF Junior World Champs in June.
"It was an incredible feeling to push myself and see my training and focus pay off. Standing on that podium to receive my medal was a huge honour and I feel very proud to be able to represent New Zealand," says Andrews-Nahu.
"Now I’m back at the gym training hard for my next competition. I really want to do well and make the most of this time to learn from my coach as he pushes me to lift more and get my technique spot on.
"The backing of my family, coach, friends and my new sponsor, Tower, is incredibly powerful to me. Knowing that I have their support and backing keeps me focussed and dedicated on doing my best, especially in winter when I might not feel like getting out of bed and training," says Andrews-Nahu.
Kiwi Insurer Tower recently came on board as Andrews-Nahu’s first sponsor, with CEO Richard Harding impressed with the drive and determination Kanah displays.
"We are extremely proud to support Kanah with her dream of reaching the top of the global stage and we think she has a huge future ahead of her," says Harding.
"Kanah is a high performance athlete and the drive and values she displays is something the team at Tower really relate to, which is why we chose her to be our first brand ambassador.
"It’s our job to do our best for our customers and we’re excited to stand behind Kanah as she goes out to challenge herself to do her best as well," says Harding.
