New partnership to capture Auckland from all angles

Published: Mon 6 May 2019 09:24 AM
‘Imagine Auckland’ is a new photography competition to highlight Auckland, New Zealand as a destination to visit.
The competition is a partnership between photography community Excio and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED).
Excio offers a home-grown, award-winning app available on iOS and Google Play. Visual content from individual photographers, artists, and organisations with creative collections are showcased around the world on digital wallpapers and as an iOS widget. The free Excio app allows users to tap on images to learn more about the places and sights they are viewing, whilst also learning about the photographer who took the photo.
Photographers are invited to submit up to five of their best Auckland images to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position. All entries will be seen around the world thanks to Excio's technology which displays images on mobile screens and in professional online albums.
Excio already works with other regions throughout New Zealand and has helped promote past national events including ANZAC Day, Cuba Dupa Festival, and has collaborated on a photo competition with Wellington Botanical Gardens to highlight their 150th anniversary.
Ana Lyubich, Excio CEO says “We are excited to once again host a major photography competition. The experience we have in bringing amateur photographers out and about to explore their environments is one that supports our vision of creating a new generation photography community. The images captured will showcase Auckland from a fresh perspective for locals and visitors”.
In collaboration with partner sponsors – New Zealand Photography Workshops, Epson and Progear, Excio will invite photographers, whether local residents or past and current visitors to submit their images for a chance to win a prize, along with a significant reward of seeing their work published in Excio's digital magazine – NZPhotographer. The competition should encourage photographers to visit Auckland to capture stunning new images and to inspire keen travellers to add Auckland to their travel list.
ATEED’s Head of Tourism Steffan Panoho says, “The Imagine Auckland competition provides a great platform to show off our beautiful region through captivating imagery and inspire others to experience it for themselves. We’re looking forward to seeing a great range of shots of our stunning natural wonders and of the urban adventures you can have in Tāmaki Makaurau.”
The competition runs from 1 May 2019 to 10 July 2019 and is open to amateur photographers aged 16+ and has four themes to guide entries: My City, My Adventures, My Art & Culture, and My Highlights, with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position. There will also be a 'People's Choice' Award, with the winner having the highest number of likes and shares on Excio.
