Dust off your song book and get ready for a right royal party at the Auckland Symphony Orchestra’s most joyous concert of the year, Last Night of the Proms. The landmark event returns for its astounding eighteenth year with a night of revelry that celebrating the very best
of British, at playing at Bruce Mason Centre on Saturday 22 June and the Auckland Town Hall on Sunday 23 June.
This annual extravaganza of musical fanfare sees over 150 performers take to the stage. Amongst them this year are tenor Harry Grigg and New Zealand pop royalty, Suzanne Lynch of The Chicks and The Lady Killers fame. As well as her own iconic music, Suzanne has performed with the likes of Cat
Stevens, Lulu and Olivia Newton John, and in 2001 was awarded the Queens Honour of New Zealand Order of Merit for her
services to entertainment.
Harry and Suzanne will perform alongside the 80-strong musicians of the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, and a guest choir
of 70 performers from North Shore Chorale. They'll take the audience on an exuberant musical journey, with something for
everyone from traditional classics and New Zealand works to the best of Brit-pop by The Beatles and Old Blighty classics
including Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.
Auckland Symphony Orchestra music director, conductor and New Zealand composer, Peter Thomas, will once again be taking the helm, bringing to life the best of British and ensuring everyone's on their feet and
singing at the top of their lungs.
“We enjoy bringing this back to Auckland each year, as it’s not just a concert, it’s a real occasion. It’s theatrical
and interactive – the music is about bringing people together, and everyone is guaranteed to leave beaming.” – Peter Thomas
