Reel Earth Short Film Competition – Last weeks before entries close
Film-makers – both experienced and budding – have just 17 days before entries close for the Short Film Competition section of New Zealand’s only environmental film festival: Reel Earth.
Entries to the Reel Earth Short Film Competition close on May 10, 2019 across three categories – children, youth and adult. Competition winners will be announced at an awards event during the Reel Earth Film Festival between May 24 and June 7, including Queen’s Birthday weekend, in Palmerston North.
Among 20 entries to the 2018 Short Film Competition – up from 10 the previous year – young local film-maker Charlie Higginson was an award-winner with his documentary “Education by Example” on the work of the Wildlife Foxton Trust. The wide range of subjects among entries from around New Zealand include documentaries and cartoons.
Charlie says attending the 2017 festival inspired him to make his award-winning film.
“I was heavily inspired at the 2017 prize-giving by the vibrancy of young film-makers coming together to make films that really matter,” Charlie says.
The competition gives entrants the opportunity for freedom of expression about environmental issues they are really passionate about.
The Reel Earth Film Festival itself has a brand new selection of award-winning and thought-provoking films. An impressive line up of homegrown and international films will be screened
Reel Earth aims to entertain, educate and empower. Guest speakers, ready to engage in Q & A sessions and audience discussions at each film, include prominent film-makers and well respected scientists.
