TVNZ and Spark partner with Auckland Grammar School

This year’s Grammar v Kings match will take place on Saturday, May 18, with the special broadcast commencing at 2pm live on TVNZ 1 and streaming on Spark Sport.

The history and fierce rivalry between these two schools marks this game as one of the pinnacle events in the school sporting calendar, and more than 10,000 spectators are predicted to pack the Auckland Grammar School grounds. A free-to-air broadcast, as well as a live stream makes the game available to all fans, and alumni, no matter where in the country they are based.

TVNZ and Spark Sport’s Scotty Stevenson will helm the commentary, alongside Auckland Grammar Old Boy and Leinster legend, Isa Nacewa.

Scotty Stevenson says, “This enduring rivalry is rugby at its best. These schools have produced many of the most famous names in the sport - All Blacks captains Wilson Whineray, Ian Kirkpatrick, and Gary Whetton, for instance and, more recently, the likes of Ali Williams, Doug Howlett, and Reiko Ioane.

“However, what makes this game so special is its genuine sense of occasion, and that takes on an even greater significance this year.”

This year’s match forms part of Auckland Grammar School’s 150th Anniversary celebrations which have drawn former students back from all corners of the country and the world. TVNZ and Spark Sport’s broadcast will capture the celebrations as well as the match, making this an event not to be missed.

Auckland Grammar School Headmaster Tim O’Connor says, “This will be a celebration of much more than rugby. This intense rivalry brings with it an unparalled parochial support of our school’s traditions and values in its 150th year. We are proud to partner with TVNZ and Spark Sport to allow so many others around the country to join us for a unique experience.”

Following the live broadcast and stream of the event, the match will be available to replay on Spark Sport for 30 days.
