Airport welcome for international cricket teams
The Bangladesh team arrives at 12.40pm on Sunday and the New Zealand team at 12.40pm on Monday at the Dunedin International Airport.
The Dunedin City Council is encouraging fans to get dressed up and head out to the airport to welcome both teams.
The King’s and Queen’s High Schools’ Kapa Haka group, He Waka Kōtuia, will welcome the teams on both days.
Mayor of Dunedin Dave Cull says, “We’re looking forward to welcoming both teams to the city and to an exciting contest on 20 February. We haven’t had a visit from the Bangladesh team since the Cricket World Cup in 2015 so this is a great opportunity for southern fans to watch them play again.”
To mark the occasion, Dunedin’s Bangladesh community has organised a fun cricket match with the DCC at 4pm on Sunday at Chingford Park.
People will be able to meet some of the BLACKCAPS at the Dunedin Public Library on Monday. The event will be held in the children’s section between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. This will be an opportunity for children to ask questions, get photos and autographs and win giveaways.
