Advice and more available for ‘Get Outdoors Week’

‘Get Outdoors Week’ (GO Week) will run from Friday the 15th of February to the 22nd and is aimed at families and those new to the outdoors. The week is focused on ‘self-powered’ trips on both water and the land and has been jointly developed by a range of Safety, Tourism and Retail organisations.

Mike Daisley, CEO of the Mountain Safety Council (MSC) is excited to have the support of members of the ‘Outdoor Safety Retail Partnership’ (OSRP) for GO Week.

“It’s so encouraging to see leading outdoor retailers working alongside regional tourism organisations and safety organisations like MSC and Water Safety to enable the best outdoors experience for the participant.”

“At the heart of the week is ensuring participants explore the great outdoors, especially those who might have been a bit unsure how to go about planning for an outdoor adventure.”

“We made sure the OSRP was a key part of our partner network almost two years ago now.

“The support they provide outdoor participants with respect to equipment and advice is invaluable.”

Nadia Scott, Marketing Manager for Macpac, says:

"Get Outdoors Week is a brilliant initiative that all of us at Macpac have been excited by since it was initially proposed last year.

"Our team live by the fundamental belief that we are all better off for time spent in the outdoors. It’s so important to us both mentally and physically, and for strengthening bonds with our friends and family. So to Macpac, the opportunity to be a part of a week that encourages more kiwis to get away from their screens and get outside is right up our alley.

"Kiwis now have a dedicated week which we hope will provide the encouragement and inspiration to get more people exploring New Zealand's incredible nature and wild places. There’s no need to travel far, wherever you live in our fabulous country there are opportunities from urban micro-adventures up to epic multi-day trips, and everything in between. No matter what you choose to do, we can guarantee you’ll feel better for it.

“Having so many organisations come together to get behind GO Week is unique, and shows the passion we all have to get this important message out there. Helping more people get into the outdoors in a safe and supported way is not just exciting, but we hope over time will maintain a way of life that is so close to our hearts as New Zealanders.

"In Macpac stores our experienced team are ready to support people in choosing the right gear to take on their adventure safely and comfortably. We're running several 'how-to' information events in selected locations as well as promotions throughout the week, so keep an eye on our social media accounts for more details, especially if you're new to 'getting outdoors'.

Andrew Powell, National Marketing Manager for Bivouac, says:

“Bivouac Outdoor is committed to providing New Zealanders with the highest quality outdoor clothing and equipment available today, to provide safety and comfort whilst participating in their outdoor pursuits.”

“But the correct gear is only part of the equation; receiving expert advice, direction and access to the multitude of resources now available is of great importance.”

“GO Week is an amazing initiative, encouraging safe and informed participation in the outdoors. Bivouac is proud to join other top outdoor retailers to promote and support GO Week and raise awareness of the excellent resources MSC has produced and compiled, including the Plan My Trip App (accessible via www.bivouac.co.nz).

“Also, keep an eye out for some fun competitions that be occurring during GO Week.”

Torpedo7 Head of Marketing, Sonya Wilkinson, says:

“Helping people get out there and enjoy the outdoor playground of New Zealand is the cornerstone of what we do, so we’re thrilled to get behind GO Week in partnership with MSC.

Throughout the week, customers will see an integration of GO Week through preparation focused stories and beginners guides, in addition to a safety kit social giveaway competition to raise awareness of the MSC, and encourage people to gear up before they go outdoors.

We’ve also worked with MSC to embed their resources on our website to help people enjoy the outdoors safely. These include planning guides, location & correct gear recommendations, so customers can safely share their journey plan with friends."
