Kate made a discovery. She wrote a poem about it. She writes lots of poems about sex, sexuality, the body, and bodily
functions.
She's filthy, flirty, and funny; saucy, seductive, and sensual; raunchy, ridiculous and ravishing. You won't believe
what comes out of her lips.
Writer/director/producer Kate is on a mission. “I want to normalise talking about sex and sexuality. So often we hide our true desires for fear that we’ll be judged.
When we can’t talk about things openly, they find other channels. There’s an undercurrent that becomes unhealthy and I
want to change that. I want to make it okay to talk frankly about sex and bring it out in the open. The talking about
it, not necessarily the act itself!”
What should people expect? “This show is definitely not for the fainthearted,” Kate says. “It’s rude, crude, and lewd but all the poems have a point to make.”
Kate has plans up her sleeve. “I’m really lucky to have found an incredible sponsor in the Wā Collective. They’ve given me a menstrual cup to give out
each night after me poem Period Piece.”
She’s also going to give out water pistols for the poem that inspired the title of the show. “Yup, I’m going to get drenched!”
Kate Spencer is co-producer of Poetry in Motion Wellington and the The Wellington Feminist Poetry Club: 2019; a national slam finalist; typewriter poet for hire; promoter, producer, and alumni of Naked Girls Reading: Wellington Shows! 2019; a project manager and article writer; a church-going, fully fledged, committed Christian; a dichotomy. She has done
