After a 16,000 strong crowd in Queenstown last weekend, the annual Summer Concert Tour today moved onto its show when 15,000 fans descended on Taupo Amphitheatre for the sold out Taupo Summer Concert.
Hot and sunny summer conditions greeted international acts, SUPERTRAMP’s Roger Hodgson, James Reyne and Mark Seymour formerly of AUSTRALIAN CRAWL and HUNTERS & COLLECTORS, along with the unmistakable voice of TONI CHILDS.
Providing the opportunity for local New Zealand artists to perform to audiences of this scale, organisers this year offered the opening set of the day to Paul Foulds and Jackson Owens, followed by the Automatic 80’s, as concert goers set themselves up for the day with their rugs, chilly bins and sunscreen.
With the picturesque back drop of the Waikato River in the background, Toni Childs was next to take to stage early afternoon and entertained concert goers with her unmistakable hits , entertaining them with her journey of her musical career with songs including Don’t Walk Away, Stop Your Fussin’ and Zimbabwe.
Next up was an incredible set from James Reyne and Mark Seymour, where they each performed individually and then joined forces to perform their well-known hits such as The Boys Light Up, Reckless, Holy Grail, and Throw Your Arms Around Me, finishing up with an awesome rendition of Talking Heads Psycho Killer.
At the time of this release, and another crowd favourite, SUPERTRAMP’s Roger Hodgson along with his full band are on stage performing his formidable repertoire of Supertramp hits including Take The Long Way Home, Breakfast In America, Give A Little Bit and The Logical Song.
Amanda Calvert, CEO of Greenstone Entertainment comments, “Two Saturday’s and over 30,000 fans have experienced these amazing artists already. We can’t thank all the fans enough for coming along to support these fantastic artists who make the long journey to New Zealand to share their first class talent with us all. We now move onto the final show of the tour in the amazing Whitianga.”
A limited amount of tickets for the Whitianga show will available for purchase on the day from the main gate until sold out.
