Boosted by last round’s Plunket Shield win and bolstered by the return of BLACKCAPS spinner Will Somerville, the Auckland Aces are excited at the prospect of another home match against Northern Districts tomorrow.
The match against Canterbury was a fantastic captaincy debut for Robert O’Donnell.
“It was an awesome experience to captain my first game, and to get a win was the best way it could have turned out.”
O’Donnell says it was a team effort that got them over the line.
“I’m proud of the way the bowlers bowled, and we showed a lot of patience through the game.”
“Three guys got past 50 and that got us home.”
Northern Districts will be a different prospect, in a game which sees a spin-off between two returning BLACKCAPS.
“ND have Ish Sodhi coming back and he’s a great bowler, but so is Will Somerville so there’s going to be a lot of very good spin in the game,” says O’Donnell.
“I think it’s going to be a tight fixture - it’ll take a couple of guys producing standout performances to help us win the game, and we have players who can do that.”
BLACKCAPS pair Mark Chapman and Glenn Phillips both performed well against Canterbury and will be looking to make their mark on the game.
Along with returning spinner Somerville, the Aces bowling attack also gets another seam option with the inclusion of Danru Ferns.
The Auckland Aces play Northern Districts in round four of the Plunket Shield at Eden Park Outer Oval on 14- 17 December. Each day’s play starts at 10:30, and entry is free.
