Award-winning reggae band Three Houses Down have been secured as the headline act for Masterton District Council’s Waifest 2019.
Three Houses Down (THD) have been established for over 10 years and in that time have received numerous NZ Music Awards and toured worldwide with the likes of UB40 and Ziggy Marley. This summer they will take the stage at ONE LOVE and Homegrown, two of Aotearoa’s biggest festivals and concerts.
Joining THD on stage is up-and-coming artist General Fiyah (12 year-old Lotima Pome’e) who co-writes, sings and tours with THD. This year he won the Best Pacific Song, Best Pacific Music Video and Vodafone People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Pacific Music Awards.
Community Facilities and Activities Manager Andrea Jackson said securing such high-calibre acts will help build on the success of the 2018 event.
“Waifest is a free celebration of bicultural heritage and Masterton’s diversity of ethnicities, cultures and age groups,” Ms Jackson said.
“Last year we had an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people attend Waifest – we’re excited about the opportunity to build on that success with Three Houses Down and General Fiyah as our headliners.”
Masterton Mayor Lyn Patterson said it was important to engage youth and families alike in events over summer.
“These bands certainly appeal to those audiences, so I’m excited about seeing people come out in force for a day of celebration come February.”
Waifest also showcases a wide variety of arts and crafts, entertainment, kai, storytelling and local history.
The 2019 event will take place 10am – 3pm, Wednesday 6th February on the Cricket Oval in Queen Elizabeth Park.
