Trade Me launches Kindness store to help Kiwis in need this Christmas
Trade Me has teamed up with Women’s Refuge, the Starship Foundation and the SPCA to make giving a little easier this Christmas with Trade Me’s Christmas Kindness store.
Trade Me spokesperson Logan Mudge said Christmas is a wonderful time of year but some Kiwis have it tough. “We know a lot of New Zealanders in the community want to give to those in need this Christmas and we want to help make that happen.”
Mr Mudge said they’d been working closely with Women’s Refuge, the Starship Foundation and the SPCA to find out what items they need most.
“We’ve got all sorts of things for sale from dog collars and chew toys to pillows, hair care and kids books.
“Kiwis can support these charities by purchasing an item from the Trade Me Kindness Store. It’s as easy as that. We will take care of the rest and make sure it gets wrapped and delivered to the charity.
“Our members are a generous bunch, we see them pitch in on charity auctions all the time, but we know how hectic Christmas can be so we thought we’d make it as easy as possible to donate to a worthy cause.
“A hairbrush can be bought for $10, $17 could buy a dog bowl and $22 can buy a colouring book for a child in hospital.”
Trade Me has kicked started the campaign by donating $4,500 worth of items.
“Our goal is to get more than 2,500 items to deserving Kiwis across the country to make their Christmas that little bit brighter.”
Dr Lesley Mynett-Johnson from the Starship Foundation said often we take it for granted that over the summer holiday we’ll be spending time together as a family, swapping presents and enjoying all the fun of the season.
“Unfortunately the reality for many Starship families, is that they’ll be spending this time in hospital. Having something to lift their spirits and bring some joy can make a huge difference, so we’re really grateful to Trade Me for helping bring a smile to families at what can be a very challenging time.”
