Grand Designs New Zealand* Season Four a Ratings Success,
Megan Annear Celebrates Five Years at the Edge


Local favourite Grand Designs New Zealand* concluded its fourth season last Wednesday with the show’s finale reaching a 26.6% audience share and 7.8 rating point in the key 25-54 demographic, also winning its timeslot. This year’s season of Grand Designs New Zealand* was the most successful to date for online viewing, finishing in fifth place on the ThreeNow top 10. Total video streams were up 28% on 2017's third season, with a 9% gain in on-demand viewing and a 21% gain in live streams. Overall, the show averaged a 25.2% share and 7.4 rating amongst 25-54s.


Three won the night on Wednesday with a 22.7% share (25-54s), and it was also the highest rating channel on Saturday night with a 18.9% share. Wednesday night’s success was thanks to timeslot wins from Grand Designs New Zealand* as well as Buying Blind (16.6% share, 4.0 rating) and Hawaii Five-O (23.2% share, 2.9 rating).


The AM Show continues to combat the competition, winning its timeslot on Monday (29.0% share, 1.8 rating), Wednesday (34.5% share, 1.9 rating) and Thursday mornings (32.3% share, 2.0 rating).


The 25-54 audience are coming to Three for their movie fix with The Founder winning its timeslot on Saturday, hitting a 22.7% share and 3.8 rating, while last night’s Sunday blockbuster Ben-Hur won with a 21.2% share and 4.4 rating.

Last night's final episode of Australian Ninja Warrior won its timeslot, reaching an impressive 21.1% share and 6.6 rating, while on ThreeNow the episode came in second place on the night for live viewing, and sixth for on demand. ThreeNow video streams for the 2018 finale were also up an incredible 169% on the 2017 final.


Tonight, the premiere of Aussie reno show House Rules airs on Three at 7.30pm. In a series twist, the seven new teams will renovate a house within the first two episodes which will then go to auction, with the total profit being this year’s prize money. Also on Three this week, All Star Family Feud: North vs. South screens on Thursday, while the critically acclaimed biographical film Hidden Figures premieres on Sunday night.


In radio, The Edge Breakfast’s Megan Annear is celebrating five years at the radio station this week. Megan also announced on air last week that she is now engaged to The Edge Workday’s Guy Mansell. A big congratulations to the happy couple and to Megan for her work milestone.


MediaWorks took out a series of big wins last week at the 2018 Huawei Mate20 NZ TV Awards, including Mike McRoberts who won Best Presenter: News & Current Affairs for the second consecutive year. Mike has been presenting Newshub Live at 6pm for 14 years and was most recently overseas covering the US midterm elections. Jono and Ben’s last season saw them take out Best Comedy / Comedy Entertainment Programme, testament to the duo and producer Bronwynn Baker, who has been at the helm since the show’s inception. Local drama Westside* won the NZ On Air Best Drama Series, while Antonia Prebble, who plays ruthless matriarch Rita West, scooped up Huawei Mate20 Best Actress. Finally, Peter Salmon won Screen Auckland Best Director: Drama for his work on Three’s Wanted.
