Mediaworks’ Mike
Mcroberts And Jono & Ben Celebrate Success at
Huawei Mate20 New Zealand Television
Awards 2018
MediaWorks is celebrating five wins at the 2018 Huawei Mate20 New Zealand Television Awards gala ceremony including Best Presenter: News & Current Affairs, Best Comedy / Comedy Entertainment Programme and NZ On Air Best Drama Series.
For the second consecutive year, Newshub’s Mike McRoberts was awarded Best Presenter: News and Current Affairs. Mike has been presenting Newshub Live at 6PM for 14 years and most recently, his work saw him covering the US midterm elections from New York.
"This is a very big thrill to win Best Presenter again, I really wasn't expecting it. I guess I'm lucky on two counts in that we've had such a massive news year over the past 12 months, and that I'm blessed to work with an incredible team whose passion is to bring that news to New Zealanders every day."
"Next year will be my 15th year presenting Newshub Live at 6PM, and the longer I do this job the more privileged I feel to have this opportunity. At a time when the world is so volatile it's an absolute honour to be considered a trusted source for our viewers and a front person for such a passionate news organisation."
Jono & Ben (season seven) won Best Comedy / Comedy Entertainment Programme at last night’s star studded awards.
Producer Bronwynn Bakker, who has been at the helm since the shows inception, says of the victory: “I’m so proud of the show and everyone involved. We’ve developed some amazing talent both on and off screen. It’s bittersweet to win an award in our final year. Big shout out to the cast – Jono, Ben, Guy and Laura for making me look good at my job.”
Three’s local fan-favourite drama Westside* (season three, produced by South Pacific Pictures) celebrated two wins last night including the coveted NZ On Air Best Drama Series, as well as leading lady Antonia Prebble (Rita West) scooping up the award for Huawei Mate20 Best Actress.
Prebble says: “I am delighted to win this award. Being part of the West legacy has had such an impact on my life, so it’s a really lovely thing to be acknowledged for that work.”
Peter Salmon, Director of Three’s Wanted (season two) took home the award for Screen Auckland Best Director: Drama, hot off the heels of the show’s success at the 2018 Huawei Mate20 New Zealand Television Craft Awards earlier this month where the drama was also awarded Best Editing: Drama, Best Contribution to a Soundtrack and Best Post Production Design.
Also at the 2018 Huawei Mate20 New Zealand Television Craft Awards and amongst fierce competition, Alice Sneddon took out the The Huawei Mate20 Best Script: Comedy category for Three’s Funny Girls.
