Susie Says! is extremely excited to announce:
A very special event to celebrate the last weekend of summer holidays!
Waiheke Island, January 12th, 2019
A special treat awaits fans of music, summer and wine: The amazing, heralded, fabulous Bic Runga will perform in a stunning location on Waiheke Island, with a backdrop of pohutukawa trees, contoured hillsides and tree-lined bays. Backed by her supercool band, Bic’s huge repertoire of songs will offer an evening of well-known favourites and gems.
Bic is honoured to be supported by one of New Zealand's finest songwriters, multi-award-winning artist Lawrence Arabia, who delivers wry observations of contemporary life in deftly arranged pop vignettes. For this special performance, Lawrence Arabia will perform solo.
Goldie Vineyards is Waiheke’s oldest winery, looking out across Putiki Bay and the Hauraki Gulf. Its gorgeous terrain offers an intimate outdoor concert setting, surrounded by established vines.
Gates open at 3:00pm to allow people to arrive early, partake in food and drink, and get situated on the grass. This event will be relaxed and chill, Waiheke styles. It will truly be an evening to remember: the apex of summer holidays!
Tickets on sale 9am, Monday, 19 November, from Ticketek.
As per usual, 2018 has been a busy year for Bic. She kicked it off performing with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in a Nelson park; at a concert by a lake in Matamata; writing and recording new music with a new band; making a cameo appearance with Uknown Mortal Orchestra at the Town Hall; nailing it as Musical Director for the 2018 APRA Silver Scroll Awards, as well as performing at other boutique events throughout New Zealand.
In late 2017, Bic celebrated the 20-year anniversary of her multi-platinum release, ‘Drive’, with three stunning New Zealand performances. In her first set she performed the album in its entirety; in the second, she treated the audience to many of her other hits and gems from throughout her illustrious recording career.
Bic is ready to enjoy Waiheke and create a memorable set of songs at the beautiful Goldie Estate, for her concert on 12th January, 2019.
Lawrence Arabia will be taking the stage in a solo performance, opening the evening's concert. Like Bic, he is a musical overachiever: his current project, the 2018 Singles Club, has produced a monthly recording and digital release with collaborators such as Tiny Ruins, Heather Mansfield and Elroy Finn. (You can check this out, here.)
Lawrence Arabia (who more casually is known as ‘James’) comes from a long and venerable history of music-making – from the heralded Reduction Agents was borne his current and long-standing moniker. The prolific Lawrence Arabia has been awarded an APRA Silver Scroll and a Tui and has received four-star Mojo album reviews, in addition to stellar reviews by New Zealand publications. He continues to create sparkling pop melodies of which Ray Davies would be proud.
The oldest vineyard on Waiheke, Goldie Estate is a boutique vineyard and winery, nestled amongst 30 acres of native bush and rolling vineyards on Waiheke Island overlooking Putiki Bay.
Goldie is easy to find - it's on the main road that leads from the passenger ferry (only 10 minutes by car) or just round the corner from the car ferry (3 minutes). It is also easily accessible by bus, bicycle, and via foot from centrally-based accommodation.
