AOTEAROA SHORT FILM LAB 2019
Applications are now open for the Aotearoa Short Film Lab we run jointly with Script to Screen. We’re calling for new and emerging writers, with bold short film ideas, to submit one script and up to three concepts for consideration.
The Lab includes a full-day workshop and follow-up sessions with one of the mentors who will guide each participant through the development of their script.
There are six slots available for New Zealand filmmakers and two slots for international ones. Writers have travelled from as far away as Chile and the USA to take part in the Lab. Films developed with the assistance of the Lab have premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival (I’m Going to Mum’s), NZ International Film Festival (Tree) and Show Me Shorts Festival (Zinzan, Baby?). This year Charmer, also developed through the Lab, won the Creative New Zealand Emerging Talent award after it screened at the New Zealand International Film Festival, was official selection at Austin Film Festival and Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival and features in the Show Me Shorts 2018 programme.
The Lab is free to attend for all selected applicants, but there is a NZ$20 application fee. Those selected can come on their own or bring up to two key creative collaborators with them. Travel costs are the responsibility of the selected participants.
You can submit your entries using this form.
The deadline for submissions 12pm on Monday 3 December.
