Le Moana Launches Measina Festival at Te Auaha
Wellington-based Pacific Dance Company Le Moana is launching the annual Measina Festival a springboard for Aotearoa’s
cutting edge dance and theatre. One of the only festivals in the world that is committed to the growth of Contemporary
Pacific Arts in Aotearoa.
Measina Festival will offer a delectable array of new works from inspiring and talented emerging dance, music and
theatre practitioners from around the country. Further works include the New Zealand premiere of award-winning
choreographer Tupua Tigāfua’s full-length work SHEL WE? to the popular Christchurch based theatre company Y| NOT Collective with their return season of LA’U GAGANA.
“We started as a group of three Wellington-based Sāmoan practitioners looking for a shared space to present our works,
and today we are a pan-Pacific festival hosting the latest creations from companies all around Aotearoa. Our audiences
travel from all around the country to witness the new generation of ground-breaking Artists, ready to make their mark on
the scene” Artistic Director and founder Tupe Lualua said.
Le Moana are an internationally acclaimed dance company who have recently performed their award winning show 1918 at Te Papa Tongarewa and in the Hall of Memories, Pukeahu National War Memorial Park.
This year the group has successfully secured funding from Creative NZ, Wellington City Council, Porirua City Council and
The Wallace Arts Trust in aiming to reach out to new audiences and artists from Porirua and the Hutt Valley to
